A Victorian Christmas Website

Yesterday, the Family First site looked at how the Internet is changing the way we celebrate Christmas, and how we relax during this hectic time. Today's FamSite uses that same technology and explores what it was like to celebrate this most joyous holiday in years gone by.

Called A Victorian Christmas, this site looks at some of the traditions and customs that were used in the past 100 years or so. Here you can find how our ancestors decorated their houses and trees (BEFORE electricity), what sort of entertaining they did (BEFORE television), the types of cards and gifts they exchanged (BEFORE mass production made this a commercial holiday), as well as the crafts they worked on. There is even a special section for children, so you will be able to see what your grandparents did during this time of year. There is also an excellent collection of links available, not only for the Victorian Christmas era, but the Victorian era as well.

Stop on over if you want to see what our ancestors did for fun. You may want to try some of them yourself. Then you will realize that even as times change, there can still be a Christ in Christmas.
