AdSense
November 17, 2005
In the world of the web, like everywhere else, someone has to pay the bills. While we have gotten used to the idea that most of the internet is “free,” the fact is that it costs money to put up websites.
Fortunately, for both the surfer and the site owner, there is Google's AdSense.
In fact, I hold Google's AdSense program in such high esteem that it is today's FamilyFirst pick.
Site owners have realized that banner ads have a limited value. While generating some revenue, many are rendered useless by various ad-blocking browser enhancements.
Google's AdSense, on the other hand, is very effective. Surfers know that nothing bad is going to happen if they click on an AdSense ad. Have you ever clicked on a banner, only to have ten or fifteen different windows pop up? Clicking on an AdSense ad will simply redirect you to an advertised website, nothing more, nothing less.
Additionally, they are so well-behaved in other ways! They are just unobtrusive text that sits there, ready for you to click (or ignore).
So AdSense ads are a good experience for the surfer. What about the site owner?
Well, personally speaking, I have a website that gets a modest amount of traffic. My AdSense ads bring in a nice monthly income for doing nothing. That's right! If you own a website, AdSense ads will generate you revenue while you're off living your life somewhere else.
If you own a website, why not sign up for AdSense and see what all the excitement is about? If you get major traffic, you might find yourself getting a large paycheck every month. And even if your traffic is more modest, you may be very pleasantly surprised at the financial effect of adding this very polite advertising medium to your site!
