Apollo 11 Walking on the Moon

In the history of mankind, one event that will stand out from all others it the exploration of the moon, and the struggles to get there. The technology involved, the sacrifices of the men that flew there, and the dangers they undertook. Today's Family Site takes a look at the first manned flight to the moon, Apollo 11, and what it took to get it there.
The site is called Apollo 11 Walking on the Moon, and is part of the Smithsonian Institute's Education website. Utilizing the latest Internet technology, a cyber visitor can explore all aspects of that flight, from liftoff, to life in space, the landing on the moon and the return to the earth. It is thrilling to relive, or experience for the first time this momentous event, and see how much of an impact it had on our everyday lives.
This flight met the goal set by President Kennedy of "...landing a man on the moon, and returning him safely to earth". It was a thrilling time in our nation's history, and one that will be remembered for all time.
