Arcade Village

arcadevillage.gifEnough work already! It’s time to play games!

That’s right, today’s FamilyFirst site is nothing but fun and games. In fact, its specialty is arcade games from the 80’s.

Man, that brings back some memories. Every day at lunch when I lived in Amarillo, Texas in the early 80’s, we were at W.C. Frank’s. You could get a big hot dog and drink for less that two bucks, then spend a half hour playing those glorious video games!

But I digress. The site has classics like Centipede, Missile Command, Asteroid, Defender, Pac Man, and the venerable Space Invaders. Some of the names have been slightly altered to keep the lawyers at bay, of course. But you’ll quickly figure out what’s what.

The games are Java that work flawlessly with FireFox (ALWAYS important to yours truly). And the sitemaster knows human nature, too. Note his instructions for downloading: “Play without the sound if your connection is slow or if you play at the office and prefer discretion.” I’m hip.

The site will be easy on older systems, too. It’s not very flashy, because the games themselves are the stars. Who needs to load a bunch of Flash animation when you’re there to play Tetris?

Check out the polling area, too. You’ll see that the most popular game is Hebi, the apple-eating snake. Hmm, I wouldn’t have guessed that.

So lighten up, have some fun, and keep the sound off if you’re in the office!
