Audible.com

Growing up, a great way to break the ice at a party or at a social occasion was to ask someone if they had read a good book lately. That is still a great conversation starter, but as technology has changed the way we work and play, it has also changed the way we read ("Have you heard a good book lately?"). If you are wondering what I am talking about, then head over to the Family First Site that we are featuring today.

The name of the site is called Audible.com, and they feature the widest selection of audio books on the Internet. An audio book is one that you listen to, instead of reading, and it can be in abridged-format or a full length reading. With the increasing popularity of portable MP3 players, it is now possible to carry many of your favorite books with you. Audible.com currently offers not only books, but magazines, newspapers, and radio shows, to the tune of over 25,000 offerings. The material is not limited to adults, as there are selections for young adults and children as well.

They are currently offering two free audiobooks as a risk free trial offer. What better way to spend some leisure time than listening to a good book? These are not obsolete classics, but current best sellers, such as Dan Brown's "The DaVinci Code", and Bill Clinton's autobiography "My Life". You pick the books you want and - presto! - you download them right to your computer. If you want to take them with you and don't have an MP3 player, don't worry, they can help you find the one to fit your lifestyle. They have a couple of current promotions, one that will get you a free player, the other which will save you $100 on an Apple iPod.

So if your summer vacation plans include some traveling, this is an excellent way to help pass that trip, especially if you have young ones who could get bored easlily. From my perspective, I have over 20 books on my iPod, and I listen to them off and on. It offers a great change of pace from listening to music, and who knows, it might even improve my mind.
