Big Learning

Learning. You're never too old to learn. Or too young, for that matter.

Big Learning means learning new ideas as part of a big picture. For example, you don't have to learn measurement in school before you start cooking. You can start learning to cook with someone who knows how. When measurement comes up, the chef can show you then and there how to measure one and a half cups. Right away, you know important things about measurement: how to do it, why you do it, how you know you've done it correctly, and maybe what happens if you do it incorrectly. That's Big Learning, and it's easier than learning things abstractly and out of context. And there's quite a bit of research that says that Big Learning is learning that sticks.

Additionally, the Treasure trove section has an article on something that is very dear to me: feeding and watching birds. The article suggests ways to attract birds to your backyard. There are lots of other family-safe sites linked with bird themes.
Don't forget to subscribe to the newsletter while you're there. And remember: you're never too old or young to learn!
