He's the guy who started the whole home improvement craze. He's Bob Vila, and his PBS show This Old House, broadcast way back in the 80's, caught the imagination of the world. Today, we have entire TV networks devoted to fixing up our houses.
Today's FamilyFirst site is bobvila.com.
This Old House actually debuted in 1979. It was to be a thirteen-episode run. It caught on. Bob hosted it until 1989.
Today, he's still involved in TV, hosting his own home improvement show.
The website is absolutely loaded with great info for do-it-yourselfers.
Check out the plethora of Real videos describing how to install masonry, carpet, plumbing, appliances, and just about everything else.
Also, have a look at Bob's blogs. He is a supporter of FLASH, the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes. He tells you how you can make your home more storm-resistant. There are homes in Florida that consistently weather hurricanes. Bob shows you how you can make yours the same way.
At presstime, the lead entry on his On The Level blog was tree bark siding for your house. Shades of the Mother Earth News!
So have fun at Bob's site. I have to go grout my bathroom floor now . . .
