Branson, Missouri's History

Okay, time to lighten up. No passionate opinions from yours truly in today's FamilyFirst pick, just some nice, lightweight entertainment.

Today's FamilyFirst pick is all about the history of a place that I referred to in my Boomer memory site as “a sleepy Ozark fishing village.” The town is known as Branson, Missouri.

Branson is a major-league entertainment destination for travelers from all over the world. And some of its acts come from all over the world, as well.

But I remember it as a fun place to go during summers to spend a couple of days while dad fished and mom relaxed, watching her seven-year-old son turning flips from the motel diving board.

Branson has turned into a major league destination for folks looking for musical entertainment, inexpensive factory-direct items, or lots of fun places for kids. Silver Dollar City, a theme park I loved as a kid and still do, is just a few miles away. And the Shepherd of the Hills nightly play is also a hoot.

Today's site tells you the history of Branson. When you read about the 60's, remember, those are my childhood memories that I hold so dear.
