Brooklyn Pix

Brooklyn, New York has long been an important part of our civilization. The city has stood since the earliest colonial times, and has a history as rich as that of any other American community. Fortunately, it has been well documented in the form of photography.

Today's FamilyFirst site celebrates the photographic history of Brooklyn. It's called BrooklynPix.com. Here's their mission:

Brooklyn Collectibles (www.brooklynpix.com) has offered high-quality photographic views of Brooklyn and New York City neighborhoods to the public since 1980. Assembled by author and local historian Brian Merlis, the archives boast thousands of images of theatres, high schools, Coney Island, Ebbets Field, trolleys, railroads and subways, stores, and regular street scenes. Pictures are mostly from the 1890 to 1965 era. Thousands of photos, lowest prices anywhere! Photos leased to the trade. We boast the most comprehensive collection of old Brooklyn photographs.

No doubt about it, there are some amazing photos here. I was blown away by the color shots of trolley cars and Ebbets Field. I'm guessing that they are prints from Kodachrome slides.

There are also some stunning shots of the wreckage of an airliner crash from 1960, when two planes collided midair.

You'll see a host of images from familiar Brooklyn spots like Coney Island, Flatbush, Vinegar Hill, Manhattan Beach, and Williamsburg. There are also lots of photos of trolleys, subways, and, of course, Dem Bums.

You c an purchase high-quality prints for a modest fee, as well. Enjoy.
