Well, it's early February, the dead of winter. This is the time of year when a gardener gets to work!
Even though there is snow and ice on the ground, you can still be busy with your garden. You can be planning its layout, starting plants indoors, and getting your stuff ordered.
Burpee, the premier supplier of vegetable and flower seeds, has a website that is a tremendous boon to the gardener. It's our FamilyFirst pick today.
You can order your own full-color catalog free here. I've heard it said that optimism is nowhere better exemplified than in a seed catalog ;-).
But the real wealth to be had here is the tremendous amount of information about growing your favorite flowers, herbs, and vegetables.
I learned here why my lettuce was long and stringy. I was planting it too late in the year, leaf lettuce and heat don't get along. I also learned how to grow prodiguous amounts of peppers by fertilizing them at the right time and with the right fertilizer. Oh, and peppers LOVE the summer heat!
You can also order your seeds online here, to have them in plenty of time to make starts.
There is a lot a lot of great garden gear to order online, for your or a gardening loved one.
So here's to the dead of winter, when a gardener starts dreaming about spring, and gets busy making it happen!
