Well, we’ve been covering all sorts of sites for FamilyFirst since I took the handoff from Rich.

We’ve had our share of sites that make you think. Educational sites will always be a favorite genre for me.

However, sometimes you just need to shut the old brain off and relax.

Today’s FamilyFirst site, Butterfly Station, will allow you to do just that.

It’s just a little lightweight fun. Kind of a pleasant waste of time, if you will. It’s PERFECT for stressful days at the salt mines, when you need a quick vacation from work.

If you grew up in the 60’s or 70’s, you’ll love CyberSpirograph. Take your virtual pen and move it to the desired virtual hole in the wheel, and start drawing! You can adjust all sorts of angles, speeds, etc. to make an infinite number of patterns. You can even change the color of your “pen” on the fly.

Pendulum is just a relaxing pattern that draws itself all by itself, with the stylus being the end of a virtual pendulum. Relaxing and fascinating. If it gets in a rut, restart it. Your mouse point determines its starting point.

Spectra presents you with patterns called “LifeExplosions.” Once again, it’s fully configurable. You can even download a self-executable for your computer.

But the coolest is the Fireworks! Click on the field, and an exploding shell is launched to your mouse point. Try machine-gun clicking for a fusillade of virtual aerial bombardments.

It’s all friendly, lightweight Java that ran faultlessly on my beloved Firefox. You IE users will have no problems, either. Enjoy this pleasant vacation from reality.
