Capital Comics

When I was in my teens, I LOVED comic books.

I found a used book store in town that had a good stock of those glorious DC comics from the mid 1960's with that checkerboard pattern across the top of the page. They cost (get ready for this) TEN CENTS APIECE!

Of course, we're talking about 1974 or so. While a good price for the time, it meant making a long-term investment to make a profit.

Unfortunately, I cashed in too early. When I moved out of Mom and Dad's place in 1981, I unloaded them for a profit of perhaps 10%.

Well, they have certainly gone up in value since then. And there's a booming market on the web of buying and selling used comic books.

Hence, today's FamilyFirst site: Capital Comics. Here's their mission:

Capital Comics is a site for comic collectors. Our goal is to serve the comic book fan and to preserve rare & collectible comics by putting them in the hands of collectors who will appreciate them for years to come.

They have comics classed by ages: Golden (pre-1955), Silver (1956-1970), Bronze (1971-1980) and Modern Age (post 1979).

You can also browse by brand name. Do you like those creepy EC comics of the 1950's? No sweat, find them instantly.

Marvel features the Captain America and the Falcon series from the 70's. Man, I was hooked on those!

So take a trip down memory lane, and recall the time when 12 cents bought you a great read.
