I know what it's like to slave away at a job that's just not a good fit. I spent twenty-three years working as an electrician. It was good work, and decent pay, but it wasn't a particularly enjoyable experience.
At the age of forty, I changed careers. After a couple of years of self-study, I was able to land an above-entry-level job as a network tech. The company I work for is generous in their training, and six years later, I am working at a job I love, and have received a major-league IT education in the meantime.
Today's FamilyFirst pick is for all of you who feel unfulfilled at their jobs, who feel like there's a better calling for you awaiting somewhere. It's Monster.com's Career Changers site.
The fact is that there are great opportunities in this post-dot-com-crash era. There is also a huge demand for workers who have wide-ranging skills. In other words, if you are used to serving the public at a fast-food restaurant, you may be a more valuable helpdesk tech than the IT major who has never dealt with humans and their feelings.
Companies are starting to see things this way. And that's why Monster's career Changers is such a valuable asset to them, and to you.
Learn how to make your jobless time count to YOUR advantage. Learn ten mistakes career changers should avoid. And check out a column I particularly can relate to: Change Careers at Midlife.
So take a long, hard look at today's FamilyFirst site. If you're not ENJOYING your job, find one that you will! If i can do it, ANYONE can.
