Chilhowee Glider Rides
May 17, 2006
A fellow I work with turned me on to today's FamilyFirst site.
He was vacationing in eastern Tennessee (he like to paddle kayaks down raging rivers for fun) and came upon this lady's business. When he told me about it, I was intrigued enough to make it today's FamilyFirst pick.
The business (and website) is called Chilhowee Glider Rides. I'll let them tell you what it's all about:
Experience the thrill of motorless flight over the beautiful Tennessee countryside and ridges. Admire the Hiawassee River from thousands of feet in the air as you go up like a bird in a warm thermal. On some days you can fly the ridgeline at awesome speeds. Other times you can take hold of the controls with your pilot and feel what it is like to fly a glider through the various air currents that sustain free flight. These are all the joys of soaring at the Chilhowee Gliderport.
Now is that a cool activity, or what? I never even thought about going on a glider flight! And this gal has been doing this since the late 1970's!
The price is a very reasonable $160 to get a tow to 5,000 feet and enjoy a silent glide savoring the beautiful Tennessee scenery.
You can also receive training to become a glider pilot yourself.
There are lots of neat glider and scenery pics, and also some neat accounts of gliding experiences.
So get your tow,cut loose, and soar the thermals with today's FamilyFirst site!
