China Daily

China. The other side of the world, if you dig deep enough, or so we thought when we were kids. The land of over a billion inhabitants, and where the government has determined that the numbers will stabilize, even if it means forced late-term abortions. It's run by an oppressive communist regime that swiftly and severely punishes dissidents, sort of like Cuba handles them. But instead of making it illegal for US citizens to travel or to do business there, China is one of the biggest suppliers of nearly anything we Americans purchase.

Wal-Mart, who used to proudly post how many American jobs had been preserved thanks to the company's choosing American-made products to sell, has relented to making Chinese companies the primary stockers of their shelves.

You don't see those Buy American signs in Wal-Mart anymore.

Today's FamilyFirst site is the English version of China Daily. Here's their mission:

Committed to helping the world know more about China and the country's integration with the international community, China Daily is regarded as one of the country's most authoritative English media outlets and an important source of information on Chinese politics, economy, society and culture. It is often called the "Voice of China" or "Window to China." China Daily also serves as important source for high-end Chinese readers who want to know more about the world.

You will get a local view of life in China here. It's really pretty fascinating. The nation has long been criticized by outsiders, well before Chairman Mao took over. Here, you can get their side of many issues.

There's a forum, too. I was able to post a question requesting Chinese citizens to offer their take on the Tianamen Square crackdown. That kind of surprised me.

I wonder if I will get any replies?
