Today's FamilyFirst site centers on a nation that is located in a beautiful part of the world. Its shores are lapped by gentle Caribbean waves, although it does face the occasional hurricane.
It has a colorful history of being America's playground for the wealthy.
And if you travel there from the United States, you are currently subject to arrest.
The nation is Cuba, and today's FamilyFirst pick is a site offering information about the island nation.
One subject I steer WAY clear of is politics. However, is it just me, or does the Cuban policy seem a bit . . . inconsistent? I mean, who is one of the U.S.'s biggest trade customers? China. And the reason Cuba is being deprived of American business is what? Being a repressive communist regime? Can anyone recall what happened in a place called Tianamen Square a few years back?
OK, that's absolutely as political as I will EVER get here. Let's talk about the site.
One of the things I learned here was that Cuba is largely covered by pine forests! I never knew that. In fact, they have a thriving lumber industry which accounts for much of their economy.
I also learned that much of the land was once owned by Americans. Perhaps that's the main source of the beef that this nation has with them?
You can shop online here, too. Get books on Cuban recipes, get a video of former Pythoner Michael Palin exploring Hemingway's life in Cuba, and more.
So enjoy today's perhaps slightly controversial FamilyFirst pick. Perhaps circumstances and legislation will change sometime soon and allow American citizens to legally visit this beautiful island.

from the above article--"And if you travel there from the United States, you are currently subject to arrest."
You failed to mention that it not the Cubans you will arrest you as this statement intimates...IT IS THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT THAT WILL ARREST YOU WHEN YOU COME BACK! The reason I want you to make this clear is that according the polls most Americans still believe that Iraq had something to do with 9/11 which was a lie perpitrated on its citizens by the American government. It is the responsibility of a site like yours to make sure that the truth be told in all your articles so as not to mis-inform your visitors.
The statement and question posed, "I also learned that much of the land was once owned by Americans. Perhaps that's the main source of the beef that this nation has with them?" is basically correct. Prior to Castro's revolution the country was run by a ruthless dictator who was making HIS income from big Sugar, Lumber and Hotel company's payoffs from American corporations and American crime syndicates. Hence the reason for the revolution. Because after the revolution the American government praised Castro and then demanded he give back all the hotels and sugar plantations etc to the American companies that owned them under Batista (dictator). When Castro refused intimating that it was these companies that proped up the dictator and under paid the labour and were stripping the country of it's rescources - that is when the American business interests did what they do best. They lobbied the government to place the restrictions that American has today on Cuba.
I just thought that your readers who do not know what happened should at least be told a little of the true history.
The Cuban's turned to the Soviet Union for help after the American government at the behest of American bsiness cut them off. Also the Americans have tried several times to kill Castro and at least once tried to invade the country and take it over...that like, Vietnm and Simolia and now in Iraq....was a disaster for the Americans, they were defeated and left the country.
