Deja News

Before chat rooms and graphical browsers were popular on the web, when it was a text based format, a popular way to exchange data and information was via newsgroups. In the past few years, the popularity of this format of web surfing has grown by leaps and bounds. My ISP now carries over 15,000 of them, and are adding more daily.

How can one person sort through all these groups, and find the one best suited for them? I am glad you asked. Today's site, Deja News, is a search engine for newgroups. It is here that a visitor can enter a topic, and be whisked away to the group of their choice. There are several ways of searching. The easiest is the Quick Search, where the search is conducted based on a word or series of words entry. A Power Search refines the search by adding more information. It is also possible to go directly to a list of the groups.

This is a good utilitarian site to have bookmarked. It serves a useful purpose, and is only as difficult to use as a visitor makes it. Well worth the time you spend here.
