Elvis Presley Dies at 42

It's hard to believe, but it's been thirty years since we lost the King.

Next month will mark the 30th anniversary of Elvis's road manager, Jerry Esposito, walking into the bathroom at Graceland and finding the King of Rock and Roll dead on the floor.

Of course, we refused to believe it, and within months, rumors were flying of various shopping mall sightings.

Many of you weren't there in 1977. Some of you were too young to remember. But Elvis's death was a shock that stunned the world.

Today's FamilyFirst site is the Washington Posts's account of his death, printed the next day.

The article celebrates the life of a truly great musician and performer. It is written as breaking news. The only mention of drugs was that there was no evidence of abuse.

Of course, it soon came out how heavily the King depended on pills of all sorts, all obtained for him legally by his manipulative manager, Tom Parker.

It's too bad he couldn't have been charged as an accessory in Elvis's death.

Anyhow, enjoy the article, and let yourself be taken back to a hot summer day thirty years ago, when rock and roll's possibly greatest pioneer slipped away from us.
