Empires that Ruled the Middle East
March 01, 2008
The Middle east has been a hotspot since any of us can remember. Senior citizens can recall when the state of Israel was born in 1948. Boomers can recall the Six-Day War. Young adults can remember Operation Desert Storm, and kids have grown up with American troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.
But all of this unrest is nothing new. General Joshua took the Promised Land by force, wresting control from the Hittites that occupied it. Years later, the Assyrian dominated the area.
Much blood has been shed on the part of those who would seek to control the area known as the Middle East. Today's FamilyFirst pick is a Flash movie that outlines the details of the various empires that have ruled the area, and their eventual demises.
Indeed, today's situation of various independent states is a new twist in the Mid-East, and is obviously going through growing pains of its own.
So watch the 90 second movie and gain a new appreciation for the fact that life in this particular part of the world has long been etched with the horrors of war.
