Extreme iPod

We have been exploring sites that complement the Apple iPod MP3 over the past few weeks. Having been an iPod user now for over a year, there are two things that I find amazing about it: 1) the technology that it is incorporated into it, and 2) the tremendous support of the user base, both for the iPod itself and any aftermarket add-ons, whether it is software or hardware. K know there are other MP3 players available, but I have yet to see one that has the support of it's user base like the iPod has. Today Family First Site looks at another site that provides excellent information.

The name of the site is called Extreme iPod. It is a site that is maintained by Ziff-Davis Media. The purpose of the site is to help users to customize, optimize, and maximize their iPod experiences. The site features reviews, news, tips, and free stuff area. Their reviews are well written and easy to understand. They also have some unique twists to them. One of the current ones tells about the experience of getting a 40gb iPod for 1/2 price at an electronics store, and the experiences he had making it work. The free stuff area has some good utilities, such as one called Copy Pod. It allows you to download your iPods contents to your computer before you have to send it in for repair, or if you have used the system updater.

The are some interesting stories as well. Such as the user who took four iPod shuffles and made them into a RAID array. )Neat trick, I would just like to know where he was able to find FOUR shuffles, as I haven't been able to find any). The section on Hack is great if you are techie minded user, as is the Download section. The Add-Ons area has the latest accessories information.

This site is well maintained, but it is a little more than a fan site since it is maintained by a professional publication. But the information contained here is quite good, and the presentation format makes it easy to read and navigate the site.
