FedEx Furniture

Just a few days ago we featured a site about a couple of guys who developed a web site about duct tape, and all of the uses for it. That was a very unique and eclectic site, one that I really liked. Today we have another site, one that is similar in nature, sort of off beat, but has some interesting twists with it's story. So sit back and be prepared to be amazed.

The name of the site is FedEx Furniture [dot]Com. This site tells the story of a couple of enterprising young men, Jose and Tom, who, faced with a shortage of funds, devised a rather unique way to furnish their apartments. For the record, FedEx Furniture is furniture put together by empty FedEx Boxes, and held together by fedex packaging supplies. All of the furniture on the site is 100% functional. The couch is standing/sleeping approved, and Jose sleeps on the bed every night, eats at the dining table, and works at the desk almost 20 hours a day. It was such an interesting use of material, he decided to share it on the Internet.

Where this get interesting is that FedEx (aka Federal Express) has objected to this use of their material, and there are a couple of interesting letters on the site. One is from FedEx's attorney, the other is from the Stanford Law School for Internet and Society. I won't go into the details, but the issues that are brought up are very interesting, especially regarding the Digital Copyright Millennium Act ("DCMA").

The pictures here show some interesting and unique uses of cardboard and tape to make furniture. It takes some initiative to come up with this type of furniture, and borders on art work, not furniture. It is a very interesting site and it will be interesting to see how this all works out.
