Foods that Flopped
November 07, 2007
In 1984, Coca-Cola decided that the time was right to change the flavor of the most successful soft drink ever made.
New Coke hit the store shelves, and promptly hit the bottom of consumers' popularity.
Like the proverbial fellow who can fall into a pile of something smelly and come up smelling like a rose, Coke survived its marketing fiasco. In fact, the rabid demand for the original product caused its sales to soar higher than ever. And I haven't seen a bottle of New Coke in years.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained. That is the motto of the food industry. How will you know something is popular unless you give it a shot?
Well, it often works. And sometimes it fails spectacularly.
Today's FamilyFirst pick is called Foods that Flopped. It features forgettable foods like flower-flavored Pez, blue french fries, and adult baby food.
Yeesh. Have fun. It's a hoot seeing bad marketing gone even worse!
