Free Annual Credit Report

Today's FamilyFirst site is one that it is ESSENTIAL that you visit.

You may not want to, especially if you are having or have recently had financial trouble. But you REALLY need to.

The site is AnnualCreditReport.com. It is the official, FREE site that lets you get detailed credit reports from Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion.

Let me state up front that I have some bad credit history. When the dot.com bust of 2001 hit, it dropped my income by 20%. I was already in debt trouble. The result was disastrous. I didn't go bankrupt, but I did get over 60 days delinquent on many accounts. It wasn't easy to examine my credit report closely.

However, I'm glad I did. I spotted an adverse account that didn't belong on there, and disputed it.

I also saw evidence of my credit strengthening over the last three years. While it still has dings, it is getting better.

I like to be open about my past fiscal foolishness, because I learned a tremendous amount about how debt is bad, and that it's best to stay out of it if you can. I enjoy spreading the word, and helping others who were in my same shoes recognize it.

A good place to start is with your own free credit reports. There may well be inaccuracies on there. One of the agencies had me listed as unemployed, when I have been working for the same employer for 19 years! Problem solved with my own update.

A good credit score is essential. It gets you the best interest rates, which can save you tremendously over time.

It's also your right to know what it looks like, and to request correction of any errors. So visit today's FamilyFirst site and begin your education of your personal credit history today!
