GearLog
September 22, 2007
For a professional geek, I'm surprisingly Ludditian about gadgets. I carried a Palm for a while, then quit. The highest tech item I carry now is a Secure ID that I use to log in remotely to my work computer. I have a cool car stereo that plays mp3's from a memory card, but my son had to install it for me. So call me a low-tech nerd.
However, many of you are decidedly non-computer lovers. Yet you still carry cell phones that dance technical circles around my plain-Jane Sanyo that doesn't even connect to the internet. So you will likely find today's FamilyFirst pick of interest: GearLog. Here's their mission:
The Web abounds with gadget blogs. What makes this one different? Our posters are PC Magazine analysts and editors; we encounter an enormous amount of new products and announcements every day, and we know what you want to know about. Because Gearlog is the gadget blog written by geeks, for geeks.
What's the latest and greatest? Check out the mini-aquarium four-port USB hub. A tankful of swimming fish next to your monitor. How cool is that?
How about a real-life first level of Donkey Kong? Watch a video of a dude climbing up a remake of the familiar ladders and ramps while a guy in an ape suit rolls barrels at him. Hilarious!
Plenty of fun for the geeky side of you. Come on, everybody is a bit geeky in some way!
