Gnomedex 5.0

Business has changed the way the Internet conducts itself. Before you think I have that backwards, listen to this. When I was growing up, if you made a purchase, or rented something, or even paid for an item, you got paperwork. When I was in school, all of my work was done on paper in notebooks, and we read from manuals that had printed words on the pages. Today that has all changed, thanks to advances in technology. Through technology, businesses have changed the way they operate. Instead of cashing a check at a bank, you go to an ATM and use a piece of plastic to get you cash (receipts are now optional). My son's high school has done away with yearbooks, and now have a year "disc". Because of the demands that businesses are making, technology, and the Internet, have increased the way they operate to meet those needs. What is all of this leading to? Well, to the Family First Site of today.

The name of the site is called Gnomedex 5.0, and is a joint project with Lockergnome and Microsoft. Gnomedex is the result of the efforts of Lori Lockwood and Jake Ludington, and was first held in 2001 in Des Moines, Iowa. The events of that year created some problems with that first meeting, but they were overcome. Last year, Gnomedex became 2004's Premier Internet Publishing Event. Yahoo! was the lead sponsor, with Microsoft, PayPal, and Google also showing a grand level of support. The event was held in the remote location of Lake Tahoe, and several hundred tech enthusiasts turned out to show their support. Speakers included Robert Scoble, Nick Bradbury, Jason Shellen, Wil Wheaton, Jim Louderback, Anil Dash, Steve Gillmor, Dan Gillmor, Jason Calacanis, and Steve "Woz" Wozniak. Now this weekend, they are now getting together for version 5, in of Seattle, WA.

There is quite a bit of information on who to conduct business on the web at this event. WiFI is becoming more and more popular, and companies must respond to that demand. Podcasting is a new buzz word that is gaining in popularity, and is the topic of some of the keynote speakers, most notably Adam Curry, former MTV VJ (and who registered the MTV.com before MTV knew what hit them).

So if you are in Seattle this weekend, be sure to check this event out at the Bell Harbor Conference Center. A good time will be had by all.
