Green Acres Home Page

"Da da da da da - dat dat! Da da da da da - dat dat!"
OK, that's a weird opening, but imagine the Green Acres theme song. NOW it makes sense!
Today's FamilyFirst site pays homage to one of the most bizarre, cleverest, funniest, and cleverest shows to ever grace network television.
In 1965, the show began as a spinoff from Petticoat Junction. It lasted for six glorious years and eventually accounted for 170 episodes (and one regrettable reunion movie).
It also gave us some of the most unforgettably hilarious characters that the idiot box has ever produced.
Who can forget Eb, who gave his fiancee a watch fob because he couldn't afford a ring? Or Mr. Haney, who always drove up at the exact moment that Oliver decided that he needed something? Of Hank Kimball, who couldn't make up his mind about anything? Or Fred and Doris Ziffel, parents of Arnold?
The fact is that this show was pure genius in an insane sense. And today's FamilyFirst site is loaded with info about Hooterville and its zany inhabitants.
Check out the Museum, loaded with toys (a Hoyt-Clagwell tractor!), books, albums, and authentic props.
Get a load of Lisa's recipes. Believe it or not, hotscakes play a prominent part of the menu! Don't forget to wash them down with that infamous thick coffee.
I was amazed to find out that the show's premise was based on a radio show called Granby's Green Acres. Listen to RealAudio of the original!
There are lots more fun things here for the Green Acres fan. And if, by some chance, you're not familiar with the show, click the link and learn something!
I'm off to create a Green Acres ringtone. See you tomorrow . . .
