Grisoft Free Advisor

Today, I bought a new computer.

While uninstalling all the garbage that came with a “trial period” (sort of like dumping all of those subscription cards out of a magazine you've ALREADY subscribed to!), it occurred to me that I had not yet featured a site (and software) that is an essential part of my arsenal in securing systems, whether mine or those of clients.

The software is Grisoft's Avg Freeware. And the site is Grisoft Free Advisor.

The fact is that this is simply my favorite freeware program out there. Its value is immeasurable.

There are a lot of programs that purport to be free, but are in fact timed to die at a certain point and demand payment to continue to function.

This is NOT one of them.

AVG Free Edition is like the Energizer Bunny: it keeps going and going.

When you download it and set it up, it automatically configures itself to update daily and also perform a full system scan on a daily basis.

And it is, quite simply, as good as any antivirus program out there.

AVG makes a commercial version that is quite reasonably priced. And if you are running a business, your business computers should be paying for the commercial version.

But if you're a home PC user, and are paying for Norton or McAfee, you should take a close look at Avg Freeware. It rocks.

That is ridiculous -- and uninformed.

    Really? How so?

AOL certainly does not like Grisoft or AVG among it's customers. It tells me that almost daily.
