Guerrilla Gardening

Ever heard of guerrilla gardening?

The concept is this: Public areas in cities frequently contain areas of greenery, which are sometimes neglected. Guerrilal gardeners take it upon themselves to sneak in under cover of darkness and transform the ugly, neglected spots into beautiful gardens.

Why under cover of night? Because what they are doing is technically illegal, even though it is obviously of great benefit to the community.

Now, we're not talking about land left to go natural as a preserve for endangered species. We're talking about that ratty looking spot behind the bus stop on Main Street.

The site is veddy British, and is loaded with great photos.

There is also a short film of an encounter between a guerrilla gardener and the police. The gardeners were scolded by a humorless, by-the-book cop and told to leave or face arrest.

They did so, only to return a couple of hours later to finish the job and leave a beautiful garden where weeds were flourishing.

Interesting stuff. Enjoy.
