Gunsmoke on the Radio

Our final look at the Golden Age of Radio, we go to a dramatic program, one that many people are aware of, but only because of the television show, not the radio version. It had the distinction of being one of the few, in fact possibly the only, program to be top rated on both radio and television at the same time.

It is called Gunsmoke, and it is the story of Marshall Matt Dillon, his deputy Chester, girl friend Miss Kitty, and good friend Doc. At this site you can find out about the show, it's episodes, sounds, and music, as well as a link to a site where you can purchase some of the shows. There is also a sound effects section and a story on how Gunsmoke came to be.

This is a great site for a program that ended its life as the longest running television series ever (20 seasons). But it got its start as a radio program, and here you can find out about that. Enjoy your stop here today.
