he Old House Web

As my remodel stretches into its ninth month (a even pregnant women get a reprieve after nine months), and shows signs of needing at least two more months before completion, I have to reflect back on why exactly we decided to invest all that money into it after all.

The answer is that where we have completed our work, the house is beautiful. The wood plank floor that I laid in the bedroom (three inch planks, two walnut runs alternating with two light oak runs) simply looks, IMHO (and more importantly, my wife's) stunning.

You may be thinking about some home renovating. It may not be as drastic as our project, but you would like to do some thinking ahead of time nonetheless.

If so, today's FamilyFirst site is for you. It's called The Old House Web. Here's their mission:

The Old House Web is a profitable, privately-owned company. Its founders love old houses, the Web, and publishing in general. We're in this business for the long haul. We understand that in order to earn your repeat visits, our name must be synonymous with excellence.

The fact is that there are a whole lot of home renovation websites out there. What makes this one different?

I enjoyed the first-hand accounts of folks who have bought homes and began doing away with the old and replacing it with the new. For instance, read up on remodeling a Victorian house from 1878 in Maine that proudly sported TWO bathrooms, in an era when most “restrooms” were houses behind the house!

Enjoy. I have to get get back to work on my bathroom . . .
