We all love our pets, don't we?

Running around my house at any given moment are two dogs and two cats. A budgie will likely be added to the insanity soon.

But having raised other pets to old age, I know how important good pet health is. It's heartbreaking to see a loved animal suffer because of some infirmity.

That's why today's FamilyFirst site is so important to pet owners. It's called Healthypet.com. Here's what they're all about:

The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) is an international association of more than 32,000 veterinary care providers who treat companion animals. Established in 1933, AAHA is well known among veterinarians and pet owners for its standards for hospitals and pet health care. Over 3,000 veterinary hospitals voluntarily participate in the AAHA hospital evaluation program. Trained consultants regularly visit these hospitals to ensure compliance with AAHA's standards for services and facilities.

This organization cares about keeping pets healthy, and if you follow their advice, such will likely be the case with your own critters.

For instance, you can look up the breed of pet that you own and see what conditions that it is predisposed to. I looked up our breed of dog (the unsinkable miniature schnauzer!) and noticed that it was prone to developing a condition called Comedone Syndrome. In plain English, that means numerous blackheads on the back. The male dog I used to have, McDuff, suffered from that very malady.

Cats, dogs, and exotics are covered with a wealth of articles.

So here's to the health of your beloved pet.
