HeroMachine
July 05, 2005

Growing up, I loved to read comic books. My favorites were ones with superheroes, such as Superman, Batman, the Fantastic Four, Spiderman, and Daredevil. They were fun to read, and had an sense of adventure that fired my imagination. Many times I wished that I could be one of them, to fly like Superman or drive the Batmobile just once. More often, my imagination took me to being one of their sidekicks or partners and helping them to fight crime and criminals. It was fun imagining those characters, but hard to describe them. Had I had access to the program that is the subject of today's Family First Site, it would have been much more fun and exciting.
The name of the programs is called HeroMachine. HeroMachine allows users to create their own completely custom character portrait. There are literally millions of possible combinations from 32 different component types (like hair, eyes, coats, hand-held items, and more), each with dozens of items (like guns, swords, energy effects, animal familiars, auras, and many more). Each item has up to two color fills with millions of colors to choose from for exactly the right look. Add in transparency effects and it is possible can create anything from a huge Brick super-hero to a nearly-invisible skeletal necromancer!
The purpose of the HeroMachine software is to help you bring your own characters to life. What is the reason for that? For young kids, it can help them develop their imagination and visualize them. I can see a possibility of counselors using it to help their clients find out what is inside of them. So it can serve both recreational and professional purposes. I was intrigued by making just a few changes you could totally create a new persona for you character. There is so much to do with this program the limits are only set by your imagination. Version 2.0 can be ordered online as either a downloadable program, or as download/CD version. Version 1.1 is available online for free, so you can try the older version before upgrading.
