Inside the Teenage Brain
December 27, 2005
Today, we go somewhere VERY SCARY with our FamilyFirst pick. In fact, you may find it TERRIFYING!
The site is PBS.org's Inside the Teenage Brain.
If you're a parent of teenagers, or ever have been, you are probably baffled by the behavior of adolescents. Of course, teenage thinking wasn't so mysterious when YOU were a teen!
The site is an online presentation of a show that aired on PBS a while back. You can purchase a DVD or VHS tape of the show here. Or, you can watch it online free! That's right, the entire show is streamed in Real or Windows Media format.
There is a lot of good info here on why teens think as they do. There are aids for communication between teens and parents, too. For instance, you can download a worksheet to complete with your parent or teen, then discuss your answers together. Check out Anatomy of a Teen Brain, an interactive illustration showing the parts of the brain that change the most during the teen years. Get the surprising facts on how important a good night's sleep really is to a teenager.
The star feature of the site, though, is its online presentation of the original TV show. It is divided up into chapters, so you can see the part of the show that is of most interest to you. Streams are available in both high and low resolution, for you with slower connections.
So get an education on the teenage mind at today's FamilyFirst site. The price is right!
