Joe Paterno - Official Biography
January 05, 2006
Today, all the talk is going to be over who won the Rose Bowl and thus gained the national championship. However, we're going to concentrate on one of the greatest football coaches, and men, who has ever existed.
His name is Joe Paterno, and he just led his team to a victory in the Orange Bowl to win his 21st bowl game. Penn State finished 11-1 this year, and will likely finish in the top three. This after many were predicting Joe's finish as a coach after the last two losing seasons.
What makes him a great man is not his 21-10-1 bowl game record, nor his two national championships, nor his other four undefeated seasons. No, what makes him a great man is his old-fashioned integrity.
You see, in this modern era of recruiting violations, players being given a free ticket through school and failing to graduate, and win-at-all-costs philosophies, Joe has stuck to his moral convictions. They are simple.
Run a squeaky-clean program. And make sure your players get a good education.
“The players who have been most important to the success of Penn State teams,” Paterno has said, “have just naturally kept their priorities straight: football a high second, but academics an undisputed first.”
This is the way football used to be, friends, before boosters who stop at nothing to buy wins, coaches who use players as chattel, and athletic directors and college presidents who specialize in looking the other way became par for the course.
Enjoy today's site, Joe's official Penn State biography. And let's hope this living legend goes on to many more years of victories, and graduating athletes. And may the frequent offenders of NCAA rules out there hang their collective heads in shame.

So how did a reluctant reader become a children's adventure author?
Good question.
Sometimes I wonder about that too.
Now that I have 7 books out, with the 8th on the way in early March, my next hurdle is letting readers know about them. What I've found is that children 8 and up, parents, and reviewers love my Christian adventures http://maxbookreviews.blogspot.com/
I began writing shortly after 9/11 effectively stopped my client-based, video productions. I began my research into reluctant readers and why I had been one. That search yielded some very interesting patterns. Armed with this new understanding, I began to write the kinds of books I would have liked as a child. http://maxbooks.9k.com/catalog.html
I'm writing to ask if you would be interested in interviewing me for your newsletter? Once people discover my books, they tend to want all of them. I'm including some additional information that you are free to use if you'd like to develop your own article about these books. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Max Elliot Anderson
NEWSPAPER CAPER, TERROR AT WOLF LAKE, NORTH WOODS POACHERS, MOUNTAIN CABIN MYSTERY, BIG RIG RUSTLERS, SECRET OF ABBOTT'S CAVE, LEGEND OF THE WHITE WOLF, & RECKLESS RUNAWAY are compared by readers and reviewers to Tom Sawyer, The Hardy Boys, Huck Finn, Nancy Drew, Tom Swift, Scooby-Doo and adventure author Jack London.

Max Elliot Anderson’s next Christian adventure, for readers 8 and up, is Reckless Runaway. This follows seven earlier adventures that have gotten consistently solid reviews. See http://maxbookreviews.blogspot.com
Newspaper Caper, Terror at Wolf Lake, North Woods Poachers, Mountain Cabin Mystery, big Rig Rustlers, Secret of Abbott’s Cave, and Legend of the White Wolf are compared by readers and reviewers to Tom Sawyer, The Hardy Boys, Huck Finn, Nancy Drew, Tom Swift, Scooby-Doo and adventure author Jack London. Each book has an extensive teacher's manual with chapter tests, word searches, vocabulary, and more.
Reckless Runaway tells the story of Michael Ellis, who has recently told his parents to start calling him Mike from now on. He especially hated the way they were always telling him what to do. Mike decides to pretend he'd run away. But the next thing he knows, he finds himself half-way across the country. Except for his dog, Barney, Mike is alone and afraid.
His encounter with a grown up runaway, in the circus, helps him to understand that his parents truly love him. Then Mike and Barney save the circus. Through it all, Mike learns the importance of family.

Adventure books by reluctant reader author, now distributed by Baker & Taylor
For immediate release.
ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS: Author Max Elliot Anderson’s Christian adventures, for readers 8 – 13, are now distributed by Baker and Taylor. In addition, these 7 adventures are being used for classroom instruction through the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), and the Evangelical Lutheran Education Association.
What is unique about these developments is the fact that Mr. Anderson grew up as a reluctant reader. “Not only did I hate to read, I did poorly in English, had trouble with punctuation, and was a horrible speller.”
Anderson went on to say, “When my video production business faltered, due to 9/11, I decided to explore why I didn’t like to read. This led me to begin writing the kinds of books I would have enjoyed as a child.”
Each adventure has completely different characters, setting, and plot. The books are slightly larger than most paperbacks, and the type is also larger. Shorter sentences are used along with lots of dialog. The books are already being well received by reluctant boy readers, avid readers, girls, and even adults. The administrator of Aurora Christian Schools, Aurora, Illinois, reported to the ACSI board this past summer, “I have found the books to be exciting and desired by our students. The content of these books is excellent, moral, and character building. It is a joy to see our students, especially boys, asking for more!”
A teacher at Warsaw Christian School, in Warsaw, Indiana, said, “Last year our third, fourth, and fifth graders read books like Animal Farm and Sarah Plain and Tall. It was a real struggle for the boys. But this year, we started with your Legend of the White Wolf. The students are already finished with it. Our school only planned on using three of your books for the whole year. Now we’ll have to buy more titles.”
Another administrator has said, “I can recommend every book without hesitation. While reading “Terror at Wolf Lake” I had trouble putting the book down. Max Anderson, the author of the series, has a unique ability to keep the reader on the edge of their seat. As a grandparent I am encouraged that the book creatively and appropriately weaves Christian character traits and biblical principles through the life of the main character and his friends. Parents, you will find this true of every book in the series.”
These books are published by Tweener Press, a division of Baker Trittin Press.
Completed titles include, Newspaper Caper, Terror at Wolf Lake, North Woods Poachers, Mountain Cabin Mystery, Big Rig Rustlers, Secret of Abbott’s Cave, and Legend of the White Wolf. Thirty-three manuscripts have been written for this series.
Readers and reviewers have compared Anderson’s adventures to Tom Sawyer, The Hardy Boys, Huck Finn, Nancy Drew, Tom Swift, Scooby-Doo and adventure author Jack London. “This is amazing to me,” Anderson said, “because, being a reluctant reader; I’ve never read any of those books.”
