KBears

kbears.gifToday's FamilyFirst site is a multimedia blast for kids (although this forty-something was blown away too)!

It's called KBears, and it's tons of Flash. I've always liked Flash, because it loads instantly over broadband, and pretty quickly over dialup as well. And when it's done right, as here, it's an amazing multimedia experience.

The site is divided into “worlds,” which your kids will have lots of fun exploring. For instance, let's examine A to Z Animals.

Animals are arranged by A to Z, as you might have guessed. Let's go to D. Hmm . . . let's check out Dogs. You have a photo viewer with five pics of cute mutts. You also have a factoid box. Wow, did you know all dogs have 42 teeth? And that dogs descended from the gray wolf? Kewl.

The Geo section has fun maps with pop-up country names. Exploring Australia also lets your kids identify island nations like Tuvalu, Samoa, and Niue. Quick, parents, fund Niue on a map! Maybe YOU need to spend some time at this site . . .

K-Sub 1 takes your kids underwater, where dazzling photos of undersea life can be savored. The pictures can be enlarged, too. Man, those are some mighty sweet shots of sting rays! I loved the sea turtle photos, too.

Other worlds include Dino Island, KB Farm, Science World, and of course a KB Fun Zone.

So, parents, consider this an officially-approved family safe site where you can turn your kids loose and watch them have fun. And don't be surprised if they learn something!
