Kraft Vegemite

Kraft Vegemite

Millions of Americans were introduced to the term "Vegemite" back in 1982, when the Aussie group Men at Work scored a huge hit with Down Under:

I said, "Do you speak-a my language?"
He just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich.

What in the world is Vegemite? An entire nation wanted to know. Rumors abounded. I heard that it was an Aussie delicacy that tasted horrible. I heard it was banned in the US. I figured it would be one of those things I'd never get to experience.

Happily, I was wrong.

A good friend brought me a jar of Kraft Vegemite from a trip to Australia. It's a dark paste made from brewer's yeast left over from the beer brewing process.

And I love it! I love dipping Wheat Thins into the jar and enjoying the salty, malty flavor that complements the cracker perfectly.

With that, today's FamilyFirst pick is the official Kraft Vegemite website. There are games for the kids, the history of Vegemite, and recipes.

And yes, it is legal in the US, and can be purchased online, or at your local imported foods store.

Give it a try!
