Liberty Tree Alliance
August 07, 1997
There was a group activists located in Boston before the American Revolution called the Sons of Liberty. (How do I know? Easy, I read "Johnny Tremain as a child). Their symbol was a tree in the town called the Liberty Tree, and that became their symbol. Today's site carries on the tradition of the Sons of Liberty, and their ideals.
The site is called the Liberty Tree Alliance, and is a group concerned writers, activists, and scientists. Their main focus it the preservation of the natural world. Founded in 1995, their main work and (in their words) current preoccupation is their website. But there are in-depth reports on the scientific and social dimensions of ecological sustainability. To understand that last comment, visit the site, because I don't have enough room here to explain it. What I like most about this organization is they openly welcome disagreement and variety. That is proof that there is not a narrow-minded social agenda here, but a true commitment to answering their main question: How can people arrange matters so that they meet the demands of the present without diminishing the natural inheritance of the future?
It is a tough question, and will have an even tougher answer when it is found. We are all in this together, and should all work towards a common goal. It is one world, and we are one people. Visit this site, and draw your own conclusions. But enjoy this thought-provoking site.
