Lost Liners
May 10, 2008
Once upon a time, big ocean liners ruled the seas.
Massive steel structures that were longer than football fields held thousands of passengers in different classes, according to what they could afford to pay for.
If you wanted to go to Europe or Asia or anywhere else in the world from America, you boarded a steamship.
Today's FamilyFirst pick is called Lost liners. It traces the history of dozens of steam ships, giving details as to their construction, their life of service, and their ultimate fate (usually either scrapping or being sunk in wartime).
There is also a section called For Those in Peril on the Sea. Here, you can read poignant tales about disaters that cost lives.
And there is also wallpaper to download if you like, some beautiful art of big sailing ships.
Enjoy today's very nautical FamilyFirst pick!
