Madagascar Fauna Group
April 23, 2006
One of the most exotic, beautiful places on earth is Madagascar. This island located off SE Africa is home to endemic species found nowhere else in the world.
Unfortunately, since it is a relatively small place, it is also very vulnerable to human encroachment having bad effects on the environment and the island's wildlife inhabitants.
That's where today's FamilyFirst site is working hard to make a difference.
It's called Madagascar Fauna Group. They are working to save Madagascar's native species, particularly the lemur. Here's their mission:
The Madagascar Fauna Group is an international consortium of zoos and related organizations that pool their talents and resources to work together in one of the world's most endangered places. Madagascar is legendary for its levels of biodiversity and endemism, and many of its species are so bizarrely beautiful that the whole island seems improbable, a mythical biological wonderland.
Among the organization's supporters is John Cleese, whose name is familiar to any Monty Python fan, as well as those who have watched his many movies and TV appearances. In fact, there is a lemur featured here named Avahi cleesei in the funnyman's honor!
Read about the significant triumphs the MFG has accomplished. For example, they have managed to acclimate ruffed lemurs born in zoos back into the wild! That's a tough task with these sensitive creatures.
You can buy some classy merchandise here, too, and let your friends and associates know that you support this cause, preserving this very precious environment.
So enjoy the beautiful photography featured at today's FamilyFirst site. And think about helping the cause yourself.
