Mass Moments

There was a saying when I was younger that said you can think globaly, but act locally. The Internet has given many the ability to do that, but in addition, to spread their message globally with little or no trouble. In the past Family First Site has featured sites that are global in nature, looking at the big picture. But there are quite a few quality sites with good information on them that focus on a local level or issue. Today we'll start looking at some of those sites, and how the Internet is helping to think globaly.

The site today is called Mass Moments, a daily almanac of Massachusetts history. It was launched by the Massachusettes Institute of Humanities, launched on January 1st of this year. Throughout the year, radio listeners and Internet users will find a different story every day about events and people in the recorded history of Massachusetts. Visitors to this website can learn more about the history of the state, presented on the radio, see images and illustrations, read a primary source document, and get suggestions of links to follow and places to visit. Additionally, they can view a timeline to see when a given moment occurred, and where applicable, a map to see where it happened.

Massachusettes was the location of one of the first colonies of our nation. Their local history, and the events that surround them, form the conerstone of our country. From Plymouth Rock, to Paul Revere's ride, to the Boston Tea Party, and on to current day, this former colony has contributed to our nation's well being. So spending time here can be both educational and entertaining, since the Internet technology is well implemented.
