MetaCritic.com: Film
January 11, 2006
Today's FamilyFirst site will help you make a decision about what movies to watch. A while back, we featured the Internet Movie Database, the ultimate movie lover's site. Our site today doesn't aspire to challenge the King of movie websites, but instead specializes on generating a consensus among critics about how good (or bad) a movie is.
It's called MetaCritic.com: Film. What they do is get the opinions of select critics together and average them. Here' I'll let them explain:
“Since its inception, Metacritic has provided a cross-section of reviews from a carefully-screened group of the most respected critics for the latest (as well as earlier) releases in film, video, music, books and games in a clean, user-friendly manner. And only Metacritic uses Metascores to combine all of the individual critic scores into an overall grade for each item, so users can gauge the critical consensus at a glance.”
What that means is that you can pop in and get an idea if a movie is going to be worth springing ten bucks to see or not. For instance, King Kong rates an 81 out of 100. That means it's a pretty good bet. On the other hand, Cheaper by the Dozen 2 only got a 34. That means stinker city.
Hey, if you like the movie, don't take offense. One of my faves, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, got a 30!
Agree or disagree with the critics, I think you'll find today's FamilyFirst pick fascinatin'. And that's what they pay me for! ;-)
