Microsimulation of Road Traffic
October 11, 2008
If, like me, you are frustrated by traffic jams that seem to spontaneously appear for no reason, then today's FamilyFirst pick will be a real eye-opener for you.
It's a java applet that simulates traffic patterns.
For example, how many times have you experienced a traffic slowdown in the middle of an open area?
Maddening, isn't it?
Well, as the applet demonstrates, the problem may be a traffic light miles ahead!
You have control over the simulation as to quantity of vehicles, percentage of large trucks, time, and other factors peculiar to each case.
Indeed, you may well gain a new understanding of the whims of traffic.
And ultimately, you may become a more patient driver.
That's good news for everyone.
