Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think.
August 13, 2007
Eating is one of our most basic behaviors. Eating requires no intelligence at all. Witness how plants are capable of eating, and do so to stay alive.
Now, here we are, high-powered super-smart humans. SURELY, with intelligence comes better eating habits, right?
Well, check out today's FamilyFirst pick and see what you think about that.
It's an Amazon offering of a book called Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think. It'll certainly make you stop and think before you eat something the next time.
The fact is that we make many of our eating decisions based on our perception of what's right and what's wrong. And, all too often, those perceptions can be way off.
For instance, the words “low fat” may be responsible for much overeating done by consumers who are looking to lose weight. After all, if something is low in fat, that means less calories, right?
Very often, the answer is either no, or so few calories' difference that eating more of the low fat item practically guarantees your weight will rise.
The book is an eye-opener, and even if you don't buy it, there is a wealth of information on why we make bad decisions with our diet when we BELIEVE we're making good ones.

One of the reasons that people eat too much is because of the tricks that manufacturers use with labels.
Consumers really need to know a little about calories in order to protect themselves from overeating. It's not always about portion control but many times how many calories are in the portion.
eating is just like an gamble.and yes just be seeing that we are eating low fat foods we think it won't cost us anything but it do increase our body fat.So people needs to know what to eat and how to eat so they are able to maintain their body fit and fine.
I have readed that amazon book which you recommended and its good to buy for sure.
We need to think what we eat to experience beautiful health! I love low-carb diet: you can eat a plate full of bacon, cheeses, as long as you eat no carbs, there's no quantity limit. WOW!
