"Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out to the park.... "
You know how the song goes. It is that time of the year, the start of the season for the game that is known as America's pasttime. The game is baseball, the site is the Official site of Major League Basball, and it is now batter up!! So read on.
Today is opening day for the 2005 baseball season. (But just in case you missed the morning news, the New York Yankees whipped up on the World Champion Boston Red Sox 9-2 last night in the first game of the year). At this site you can catch up on all of the latest news, results, highlights, and trade rumors from all 30 teams. Each team has their own individual websites as well, which you can get to from this page.
This will prove to be an interesting year for major league baseball. For the first time in 86 years, the Boston Red Sox are defending their championship (and as a Yankee fan, you don't know how hard it is to write that). It is also the first season for the newest team in the league, the Washington Nationals, who are the relocated Montreal Expos, as baseball returns to our nations capitol. There is the complexities of the steroid scandal hanging over the heads of many players, but the league is making the necessary steps to ensure that no illegal drugs are involved in the sport. Over the off season, many star players have changed teams and are wearing new uniforms. Randy Johnson is now a Yankee, Pedro Martinez is a Met, David Wells is a Red Sox, and Roger Clemens is making one more try as a Houston Astro.
Baseball is one of most fan friendly sports that is being played. Every year when we go to see the Yankees play in Seattle, the players are very approachable for autographs and pictures, even the superstars. It is this fan-friendly environment that makes going to a game such fun. There are tickets available in all price ranges, so it is possible for just about anyone to attend. If you can't make it, then you will always have the quality websites such as todays to fall back on.
