Mother's Day
May 03, 2005

This coming weekend is one of the annual holidays that has special meaning to all of us. It is one that is a celebration of the one person, without whom, we would all not be here. It is the one person who is associated with apple pie and the American flag. Needless to say, it is Mother's Day. Mother's Day is a time of commemoration and celebration for Mom. It is a time of breakfast in bed, family gatherings, and crayon scribbled "I Love You"s.
Today's Family First Site is one that explores this holiday, and the special meanings that is has. It also gives a variety of ways to show Mom that you really love her and thank her for all the things that she has done over the years. The countless softball/baseball/soccer/football/swimming/basketball/volleyball pratices (and the associated games). All of the school functions, selling girl scout cookies and boy scout camp outs. The times you were sick and that special chicken soup that made you feel better.
Here you can read about the history of the day. The holiday has it roots in ancient Greece, and from Englan in the 1600's. In the United States Mother's Day was first suggested in 1872 by Julia Ward Howe (who wrote the words to the Battle hymn of the Republic) as a day dedicated to peace. Ms. Howe would hold organized Mother's Day meetings in Boston, Mass ever year. In 1907, a campaign was started to make it an official holiday. This was successful in 1914, when President Woodrow Wilson made the official announcement proclaiming Mother's Day as a national holiday that was to be held each year on the 2nd Sunday of May.
So whatever your relationship is with your mother, remember that she is a special person in your life. Why not remember here with a special bouquet of flowers or other such present? Here is our favorite place to Buy Flowers. Just remember it is for Mom, and that is all that is important on Sunday. Click here!
