MP3 or Not?

MP3 or Not?

I've heard a lot of complaining about the "desecration" of music by packaging it into mp3's.

Now, I'm an open-minded guy. So I've dug deeper.

The detractors of mp3-encoded music say that the compressed data takes away a lot of highs and lows. Even digitizing music at all does this to an extent.

In fact, many hard-line anti-digitals say that the only way to get music back to the way it was intended to be heard is to return to vinyl.

WHAT???

I grew up listening to vinyl, and you might get perhaps five pristine plays before the clicks and pops would begin to appear. Not only that, but the bass in digital music in particular, high-quality mp3's in particular, puts that of vinyl to shame.

End of rant.

Today's FamilyFirst pick plays two different mp3 cuts in 128 kbps quality, typical iTunes fare, and 320 kbps, CD-quality.

You may not be surprised, FWIW, to know that I couldn't tell the difference. ;-)

About people not being able to hear the highs and lows of mp3 productions, I wonder if ,even if the production side was perfect, have most of us have already damaged our hearing listening to loud music?

    Just wondering,
