What musical instrument resides in your garage?
Besides the venerable five-gallon-bucket drum, there's the saw!
If you have ever heard an accomplished saw player do his thing, then you are aware that the wood cutting implement is capable of producing hauntingly beautiful music. Today's FamilyFirst site is called MusicalSaw.com.
There is a seven-day tutorial that will teach you how to make your own beautiful music with a saw and bow. But if you're going to get serious, you'll want to get a real musical saw. Why? I'll let them explain:
“A Musical saw looks just like a normal saw - but the material and tempering give it much greater volume, range, and sustain. Although it is possible to play just about any saw - A Musical Saw will deliver twice the range, much stronger sustain and volume and a mellower tone.”
So you might learn on a plain saw, but you will probably want to graduate to a musical saw someday. The site has an online catalog, and you will find that fine musical saws are surprisingly affordable. You'll also find baritone and tenor saws. Whoda thunk it?
You'll also find a list of songs that sound great on the saw, a photo gallery of saw players in action (and you can submit your own photo), and a list of over 200 saw players from six continents with email address contacts. You can correspond with them, get hints, and maybe even find a player nearby enough to practice with.
So go out to the garage, get the old ripsaw down, and try step one of the tutorial. You might be the next big thing in saw players!
