My Dad Goes To War
March 30, 2002
With the interest generated by films such as "Saving Private Ryan" and the HBO mini-series "Band of Brothers", the history of World War II has become an interesting topic for discussion and study. Today's FamSite is one that explores one person's military service in that war, and tells it from the trenches, not from behind the lines.
The site is called My Dad Goes To War, and is a site that is a tribute to Lynn K. Juckett who served with the 78th Infantry Division Headquarters during World War 2, and it was put together by his family. Here you can find out what it was like to be a soldier during this war, of the preparations for going overseas, the Battle of the Bulge, and the end of the war. What is interesting is the stories of the occupation of Germany after the war, a very human look at that country at that time. There are a lot of pictures, home photos that you won't find in any history books.
Enjoy your visit to this site today, and share it with a friend. It is a wonderful site and one that shows what it is to be an American.
