My French Picture Dictionary

frenchdictionary.gifToday's FamilyFirst review is going to be short and sweet. That's because the site we are reviewing is likewise short and sweet.

It's called My French Picture Dictionary. Its premise is simple: learn French through seeing pictures of the items represented by the French words.

You can click on pictures to see the French words, or go to a text listing.

Regardless, you will have a small graphical image, followed by the English and French words for the object.

For instance, clicking on a picture of a familiar gas-filled latex sphere provides you with a closeup of the item in question, plus these words: balloon, and le ballon.

Wow, that's all there is to French? Just drop an occasional vowel?

Well, unfortunately no. You also have to talk like Maurice Chevalier. Example: “Would you like to see my ballon? Hoh hoh hoh (you know that laugh, right?).

Seriously, you can learn a lot of French words at this site. It's really kind of addictive.

The webmaster sums things up best:

About My French Picture Dictionary
The dictionary is a sample of useful words.
Pressing the F11 key, on the top of your keyboard, will give you a full page display of the picture and bottom navigation buttons.
Pressing F11 again, will return you to a regular display.
Feedback is welcome, however I am a computer consultant

Please do not send me email for word translations.
Your feedback and comments about the site are very welcome!
Send them to me (in English)

So there you go. Have fun with today's FamilyFirst site. And don't forget to talk like Maurice! Hoh hoh hoh . . .
