Nick-at-Nite's TV Land

Nick-at-Nite's TV Land

Has anyone noticed that over the past few years, there seems to have been a rash of movies that were based on hit television shows from the 1960's? There have been films based on The Addams Family, The Brady Bunch, Flipper, The Beverly Hillbillies, and McHale's Navy. There is even one in the works for Green Acres (I wonder who will play Arnold Ziffel?).

Fortunately, for cybervisitors who have never experienced those fantastic shows, there are two places to see them. One is on the cable television channel Nick at Nite's TV Land, and the other is our site of the day called (what else) Nick at Nite's TV Land. This site is dedicated to those shows featured on the cable network, shows such as Mr. Ed, Hogan's Heroes, Petticoat Junction, Ed Sullivan, the list goes on and on. There is an incredible amount of information here, and it is presented in a game format, The Good, the Weird and the Wonderful. There is a variety of video and audio clips for download (called 40 Years in a Blender), as well as an up-to-date TV listing.

The only thing that would make this site better is to have the ability to watch the network itself. Like our cartoon page from yesterday, this site is filled with nostalgia in every corner. Enjoy the stop.

ADDENDUM:
This site is one of the sites featured in the new book called "Internet Family Fun: The Parent's Guide to Safe Surfing", by Bonnie Bruno and Joel Comm. They are residents of World Village (in fact, Joel is the Mayor), and have been working on this work for almost a year. It is an excellent reference for any parent who is computer-challenged, and whose kids aren't. In the coming weeks, I will be featuring sites from the book, to show the depth and wealth of information contained in it. It is available from World Village on-line, so visit the home page for details.

I enjoy Nick at Nite. My favorite shows to watch are The Cosby Show and Wings. However, I am not happy with your rescheduling of Wings at 2:30a.m. Seldom do I stay up that late, and personally I think it is a much better sitcom then Roseanne. I know I am just one person, but I wish that it could be rescheduled to an earlier time. Other than that, I really do like the programming and shows that you have on Nick at Nite.
    Sincerely,
    Neil

  2. Bill McCallie on October 16, 2003 10:43 PM

Please play more Andy Griffith, All in the Family, Cheers, Barney Miller, Coach and lessssss and less and less Roseanne.............Roseanne is not nearly as good as these other shows. I am seriously thinking of dropping my direct tv altogether due to your running Roseanne. She is bad news personally and show is not good.

I realy like to watch TV Land with my Dad...he got me into Green Acres. I enjoyed watching it at 9:30. A few nights ago I couldn't find it. And still can't. What happened to it? I never watch TV Land but only when Green Acres is on....and its not........

  7. stephanie on May 21, 2004 02:13 AM

I love watching shows like wings, roseanne(especially earlier episodes),who's the boss and three's company. And who's the boss and three's company are not aired nearly enough. Oh, and also all in the family. I find it hard going to bed with nick at nite.

  8. James Wells on June 15, 2004 12:12 PM

There is over a thousand people looking for "The Courtship of Eddie's Father" to come onto TVLand for Father's Day. This would be a great day to start a classic show that alot of people are yearning to see again. James

  9. TonyDowns on June 25, 2004 04:26 AM

I'm sick of Nick at Nite and Tvland's ruining of the very format that lured people like myself into viewership, good old classic television. I'd ditch Full House, Who's The Boss, The Cosby Show(which isn't special on Nick at Nite...You can realistically watch that show 9 times a day where I live. It's everywhere!), Roseanne and Macgiver. PLUS...NO MORE made by and for your network programming. IT IS BORING! Every since "Hi Honey I'm Home," way back, you all seem to think you have talent in creating your own programming. Look at your ratings when you air this stuff. I'll bet "Joe's Dirty Sock Planet" over on public access gets a better reading. Lose the "I can see that show on 5 other network" programming and return to the Nick at Nite and Tvland we all fell for in the beginning. I miss the following:

    Lancelot Link Secret Chimp
    The Monkees
    Car 54 Where Are You
    The Anne Sothern Show
    The Patty Duke Show
    Fernwood 2 Nite
    America 2 Nite
    Mr. Ed*
    Sanford And Son*
    All In The Family*
    Laugh-Inn
Hee Haw(if you ever showed it)
The Dean Martin Variety Hour(If you ever showed that)
    Mchale's Navy
    AND Most Of All
THE MANY LOVES OF DOBIE GILLIS!!!!

On the kid show side I miss:

    Mr. Wizard's World
You Can't Do That On Television
    Today's Special
    Pinwheel
    and
    Dangermouse

Quality programming is quality programming. You should never tamper with a system that works. I used to LOVE all these shows and watched them as an alternative to the dull programming you are now showing back when it was on network television. Being that some of us avoided those shows to see your better days of programming SHOULD tell you folks something. Those shows for the most part stink! Please reconsider what you are doing to these formerly fine channels. Beyond this, the old shows serve as an educational tool for younger people to learn what was considerred cool in other eras. I used to LOVE watching these old shows to get a glimpse on the past. It was so much fun.

If you read all that, it is VERY much appreciated!

    Tony

  10. TonyDowns on June 25, 2004 04:34 AM

Those asterisks indicated that these shows are on BUT at obscure times. Also, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE RETURN OF GREEN ACRES, THE ADDAMS FAMILY AND THE CONTINUATION OF THE MUNSTERS AND LEAVE IT TO BEAVER. WITHOUT THESE GREAT OLD SHOWS, I'D NEVER WATCH YOUR CHANNELS! Full House is on right now and I see why we always used to turn the dial over to Nick at Nite back when that garbage was on. Talk about your fake, cheesy, sickeningly trying to be sugar coated, waste time television! Those are the types of shows that lead to the death of the sitcom and birth of reality television. I'm proposing this: a new show promoted as a lost program. Make it look just like some actual old program, sets, cars, clothing, dialogue and all...in black and white even. Get unknowns to star so no one suspects it's anything other than a show the networks passed on. Maybe do this for the 60's, 70's and 80's...Have every episode narrated by a "network official" who introduces us to the show and explains why it was passed on...I WOULD WATCH THIS! Heck, I'd write scripts for it! Who's with me? I'd love to work on something like this!

  11. Jenny on July 1, 2004 02:03 PM

I love Nick at Nite but don't like some of the shows, whatever happend to the really good oldies that has meaning to Nick at nite! I keep hoping that Flipper will come back on.

    Take out:
    Cheers
    Family ties
    Mcgyver
    Three's Company
    Sanford and Son

and put some of the really good oldies back in like,
    Lost in Space
Flipper ...can't find it on TV anywhere!
    Gilligan's Island
    My favorite Martin
    Berverly Hillbillies

There is no oldie cartoons at all...

    Kids shows:
    Lamb Chops play along
    Flintstones
    Jetsons
    Bugs Bunny..ect..

some of these shows are hard to find, Please put them back on Nick at Nite! I wish we would be able to have a Cartoon Channel with nothing but oldie cartoons, that would be cool!
Please leave the 80's shows out! and bring in lots of oldies..

    Thank You!

  12. Shane Lueck on July 28, 2004 03:42 PM

I lovemost of the shows you put on. I for one love Roseanne, infact, I wish I could buy vidoes of all the episodes. Wings is another favorite, it's just on so late at night! I also like Threes Company, but not continuously. I would, however, like you to take a few shows off of the air. Like The Cosby Show and Cheers. If you brought back any show, than I would love for you to bring back I Love Lucy, that is my all time favorite show, and I cannot seem to find it anywhere! Gilligans Island would also be a great thing to bring back. But if you can, make sure you bring back Lucy!

  13. KEVIN WILSON on July 28, 2004 08:12 PM

  14. Linda Crane on August 3, 2004 08:02 PM

I would love to see the Ozzie and Harriet show again. I recently bought a dvd of some of their old shows and asked my 15yr. old son to watch awhile. I really didn't think he'd like the show at all. Well, he loved it and asked me to buy some more of their dvds. Who figured! He has even gotten his friends into the Ozzmeister.

  15. Teresa on August 28, 2004 11:04 PM

I am so sick of Full House,3's Company and Cheers.
A little bit is okay but Geezzz-zzz-e. Where is Courtship of Eddie's Father, Family Affair, Flipper, those were great!!! Green acres is great to see again. I enjoy the Addams Family, I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched and the Munsters, I am just getting my nieces and nephews into the old time classic's. Very little violence and super creative. Classic lover!

  19. Erika on February 6, 2005 11:57 PM

Roseanne is the best show on Nick at Nite...I've been following it all the way through from the beginning, and I hope they keep playing it through the end of the series to the last episode, because I've never seen it and after all this time I have to! PLEASE play the last episode of Roseanne!!!

  20. Betty on February 28, 2005 08:36 PM

I don't appreciate Rosanne and Fresh Prince being on so much. My favorites are Wings, which you must have dropped when you added Murphy Brown, and Who's The Boss which is on too late for a working person my age to watch. Why can't you put it on at 10 then I can watch and go to bed. I don't know why Rosanne and some other shows have to be on as much as they are when you have so much variety available. Please go back to some of the programming you used to air and leave off these crazy homenicked shows you are still coming up with.

  21. Mary on March 1, 2005 11:58 PM

I don't have many complaints. Just one... What did you do with "Who's The Boss?" I love that show. I looked forward to it every night. Now it has been removed altogether. Could you please at least replace one of the Rose Ann hours (2 episodes in a row.) with a "Who's the Boss" hour. I would greatly appreciate it. Other than that, I like Nick at Nite. I just miss my favorite show.

    Thank You!!!!!!!!

  24. Brian on April 19, 2005 05:01 AM

I LOVE ROSEANNE! To tell you the truth, I was a little upset that you cut ROSEANNE down to put on Who's the Boss. Roseanne is the funniest show on television, still today. People who attack her personally need to remember that we are watching a television show, we don't know the whole story of what Roseanne has done behind the scenes. I find it sensless and pitty the person who has the decency to personally attack one of the funniest womens of the nation!

  25. Terry on April 21, 2005 09:06 PM

TVLand...your Chasing Farrah show is awful. She reminds me of a fat cow Anna Nichole wanna be, where do you people dig up these has beens???

  26. Grace on May 12, 2005 07:11 PM

I love Rosanne. Every night i watch Rosanne from 10 to 11 and then fall asleep. I wish that Rosanne would come out on all seasons on DVD cause i am in love with that show..keep on playing it cause i know that a lot of people love that show as well!! thanks for you consideration!

  27. kim on May 20, 2005 02:13 AM

i love to watch rosanne! when the show was not in syndication, i didn't watch it. i didn't think i'd have anything in common with the characters since the show is about a white family. but the irony is that i have more in common with connors than the huxtables (my favorite show at that time). so nick at nite, whatever you do, don't get rid of rosanne! it's my favorite show on tv at the moment. i can't wait for the series to come out on dvd. thanks for introducing me to a wonderful show!

  28. Madonna Cruz on May 31, 2005 11:20 PM

I watch Roseanne every night at 10pm and I love Roseanne! I laugh with every episode I watch. I have a question though... does anyone know the name of the actress who plays "Bonnie"? "Bonnie" is Roseanne's coworker at Rodbell's diner. She sings in the Mother's Day episode and I was wondering if she's a singer in real life. Thanks

  29. Skylar Meyer on June 6, 2005 01:30 AM

Hey what ever happened to the T.V. show "The Wonder Years"? I miss that show. I used to always stay up late and watch that every time. Man i wish that show would come back on with Kevin,Paul and also Winnie. If that happened I'd greatly appriciate this.So please bring back "Wonder Years".

  30. Bonnie Headley on June 14, 2005 04:23 PM

I love your classic old shows and watch them every night. But PLEASE change the progams on Dirct TV. I would love to see Gilligans Island, Lavern and Shirley, and Dick Van Dyke again on your night schedule. I did love seeing Scarecrow and Mrs. King and the Waltons that you showed for a couple of nights. Bonnie

Ilike watching who's the boss and murphy brown

  33. Derrick on August 10, 2005 03:08 AM

For all the people who keep saying "take Roseanne of the show" you must be crazy. Roseanne is a GREAT show. infact i think they should take off shows like Murrphy Brown and Whos the boss, they suck. I think the whole t.v. network should be:

    FUll HOUSE
    The Cosby SHOW
    THE FRESH PRINCE
    ROSEANNE
    FACTS OF LIFE
    Different strokes.

It is a shame that in the last six months, good shows like Diagnosis Murder, Early Edition, and even Bewitched have disappeared from regular tv (Non- Digital Cable TV).

Diagnosis Murder aired its final episode on PAXTV on November 20th. It is now on the HALLMARK channel. Early Edition aired its last episode March 30.

I was even more disappointed when I found out that TVLAND had aired its final episode on May 12. Quality televison has almost disappeared. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT TELEVISION HAS BECOME!

  40. Chris M on August 5, 2006 05:43 PM

I LOVE Roseanne, and watched it for most of the years it was on TV the first time, and the last episode is a heart breaker. I am glad that Nick@Nite is re-playing them, but they are leaving off episodes that are very important to the TIMELINE! I hate when channels do that! Censorship!!

  41. Diane McCoy on August 29, 2006 01:34 PM

What did happen to all the shows like My Three Sons, Petticoat Junction, Bewitched. I really dislike Bonanza, Gunsmoke, Little House, that you show every weekend. How much of Bonanza and Gunsmoke can you watch. Bring back quality tv and get rid of all the shows you now have on. I don't want to see Cosby, Jeffersons, Little House. Bring back the shows of the 50s and early 60s

First, I would like to say that this blog is extremly old. I'm the first person in two years to write. Ok, my favorite show was wings, but that went out in around '05 I think. Rosanne is still going strong though. Watched a marothon yesterday. I do miss fresh prince of bell air, that went out a few months ago. Wonder what's next?

We need more older shows like Taxie, Leave it to Beaver, Hazel, My three sons, More Old Westerns, etc. More 60's shows at night when your home from work. I find I spend all my time surfing 200 channels to find something worth watching. Change them up but offer them every night of the week.
